Rating Leicester city’s summer transfer business so far

As many predicted, the Foxes have been very active in the transfer market so far this summer. How should we rate the club’s business?

It is likely that Leicester City haven’t finished their summer transfer business. There may be some outgoings which will become clearer after Cooper has had a chance to fully evaluate his squad. Foxes’ fans, though, will be more interested in any additional arrivals.

With the loss of Dennis Praet, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Yunus Akgun, the midfield attacking area looks like a position that needs strengthening. There were early suggestions that Callum O’Hare, out of contract at Coventry, would be targeted but, for whatever reason, that is now not likely to happen. Some suggested that Leicester might be interested in Celtic’s Matt O’Riley but the asking price – reportedly at £50 million – is much too high for the Foxes. A more likely target is 21-year-old Juventus player Matias Soule. The Argentinian, who can play anywhere across the front line, was playing, like Okoli, on-loan at Italian outfit Frosinone last season and it is reported that Leicester have made a £21 million bid for him with Juventus wanting a little more than that. Competition from Roma makes a deal anything but certain.

The new Leicester boss likes to play with wing backs and there might be a need to strengthen in that area. Much depends on where Ricardo Pereira plays and whether Victor Kristiansen can be rehabilitated back into the squad after his successful loan move. Finally, the loss of Iheanacho, together with the fact that Cooper sometimes played with two strikers at Forest, means that another forward player might be necessary. The club have been linked with Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah but he is likely to be too expensive. Overall, a good start but there needs to be more business before the Premier League curtain raiser against Spurs on 19 August.
