Update on Leicester City striker’s potential Championship loan move

Leicester City’s Tom Cannon was received positively during his debut season, but it seems the Irish forward is a wanted man. Here is an update on where his move stands and whether the move would make sense for the Foxes.

Jamie Vardy, Patson Daka, and Tom Cannon. A trio of strikers for the King Power side, with rumours of Steve Cooper looking to strengthen the first team squad. Without moving for a front two, room will have to be made and a forward moved on. This looks to be Cannon.

Championship sides are interested in bringing Cannon into their starting XI’s, and Cooper seems disinterested in keeping the forward with him at Seagrave. To be fair, the Irish striker is not particularly going to be getting the minutes he needs to continue developing and get to the physical and experience levels needed to be a starter for the Foxes.

Leicester City’s update and opinion

Cannon’s move seems to be delayed due to Jamie Vardy’s injury which could keep the legendary Englishman out for the start of the Premier League campaign. Such a situation is not ideal. Without clarity on bringing in a new striker, that leaves the Zambian forward as the main option upfront, with Cannon as backup.

However, should someone be signed that can perform in that position, the Cannon can be allowed to move to the Championship to get the game time he needs. As such, although I do think we could have Daka plus the Irishman as our primary rotation with Vardy as impact, if someone else is signed it would be wasteful to have the player here.

The Foxes will have to wait at least a few weeks for Vardy to return to the side before they clear the way for a loan exit for the striker. Tom Cannon will do better out on loan, and they should certainly let him go.
