Why Leicester won't sign Nketiah as Foxes squad numbers released
In spite of links to Leicester City Football Club, the Foxes likely won't sign Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah. Yes, the King Power team really need another centre forward to help with the workload. But why is Nketiah unlikely to be the man LCFC secure as a much-needed goalscorer for their return to the Premier League in 2024/25?
Elsewhere in Leicester news, the east Midlanders have released their squad numbers for the upcoming campaign. What do the assigned digits tell us, if anything? There are usually some massive hints and indirect indications at this point in preseason.
New Leicester City squad numbers
The Leicestershire side have added three fresh signings to their ranks: Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Michael Golding and Caleb Okoli. Meanwhile Facundo Buonanotte joined on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion. And, finally, at this stage Abdul Fatawu made his stay on Filbert Way permanent.
But there could be more acquisitions before the transfer window slams shut. We will have to wait and see. Though, I am sure you are wondering which numbers were those recruits assigned? De Cordova-Reid is No.14 for this term; Okoli is the 5 in the XI; Golding claims 34; Fatawu is the fabled No.7; Buonanotte has 40 on the back of his shirt.
Typically, the lower numbers always include the players who are probably set to be a part of the starting lineup. The odd few such as Jannik Vestergaard continue with old favourites outside of 1-10. The remaining LCFC confirmations, in positional order, are as follows:
1. Danny Ward (GK)
41. Jakub Stolarczyk (GK)
30. Mads Hermansen (GK)
31. Daniel Iversen (GK)
2. James Justin
3. Wout Faes
4. Conor Coady
5. Caleb Okoli
16. Victor Kristiansen
21. Ricardo Pereira
23. Jannik Vestergaard
26. Ben Nelson
33. Luke Thomas
6. Wilfred Ndidi
7. Abdul Fatawu
8. Harry Winks
10. Stephy Mavididi
24. Boubakary Soumaré
27. Wanya Marçal
14. Bobby De Cordova-Reid
17. Hamza Choudhury
34. Michael Golding
35. Kasey McAteer
37. Will Alves
40. Facundo Buonanotte
44. Sammy Braybrooke
9. Jamie Vardy
20. Patson Daka
28. Tom Cannon
Leicester City signing Eddie Nketiah feels improbable
Nketiah is a Premier League-standard striker, I would say, just about. Although, he does struggle even as a second understudy to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus at Arsenal. It is arguable that the former would actually suit a bottom-half of the table English top-flight outfit more than his current one.
Leicester are connected with an interest in Nketiah. However, he'd be an expensive gamble for a club with financial difficulties. His wages alone are reportedly an astonishing £100,000-per-week. I also have a feeling he wouldn't relish battling relegation anyway.
