Leicester City are said to be interested in signing former Foxes full back and Academy graduate Ben Chilwell. Some people will consider this a good idea, whilst others such as myself think it may not be a wise hypothetical transfer. To that end, here are a few reasons why the King Power side shouldn't re-sign the former England international from his current club, Chelsea.

Elsewhere in LCFC news, the differences between former City gaffer Enzo Maresca and current boss Steve Cooper have been outlined. It was actually Russell Martin, the Saints manager, who pointed out similarities and clashes. Martin is rather experienced and uniquely placed to highlight the supposed dissimilarity of the two. His Southampton team conceded nine goals to the east Midlands outfit last season: 4-1 and 5-0.

Russell Martin on Leicester City

The Premier League relegation rivals meet on Saturday in a particularly vital contest for each. In fact, Martin insists that every game in the top-flight is a so-called 'six-pointer'. The 38-year-old rates opposite number Cooper. He insists the 'best traits' of Maresca’s triumphant Leicester remain.

Martin goes so far to state that the Welshman actually 'created a well-rounded' LCFC subsequent to the addition of his own methods. I know for a fact that some members of the Blue Army would downright disagree with the previous assertion for various reasons.

The ex-Scotland defender believes the Foxes were rightly crowned Championship champions in the previous campaign as they were a superior side. The combination of the Italian's style meshed with Cooper and his staff's approach was highlighted. Leicester's keen 'organisation and counterattacking' quality were cited as well.

Ben Chilwell could be a mild success with the Foxes again if he returns but we don't need him - opinion

Obviously I understand that Chilwell is an international footballer and generally did well in his time on Filbert Way. He comes in at that level just below world-class, in spite of previously being overvalued for some reason. Maybe it was because of a lack of outstanding left-sided English ballers.

If there is a January budget to be spent, surely fees and wages are better spent on others. Players who can consistently add attacking returns are preferable, or those who add defensive metal. I'm not convinced Chilwell brings either.

Just recall the 27-year-old's flaky Millwall display years ago. Remember back to Chilwell's lack of commitment as his exit edged closer in order to avoid injury. Or that occasion he scored for the Blues at the King Power and tried to upset the LCFC faithful during celebration.

Chilwell's disallowed (thankfully) goal against us in the FA Cup Final was another revealing moment regarding his lack of appreciation for the club and fans that made him. My advice is stick with Victor Kristiansen and James Justin whilst seeking different reinforcements. Superior, younger and cheaper alternatives exist.
