Revisiting past Giorgi Chakvetadze interest could help Leicester in the Championship

Leicester City will need to make lateral moves this summer, relative to the Championship. Meaning, City will lose players. After all, Jamie Vardy's departure, for example, has been known for a while. And although there will be some promising youth players from the academy earning a chance to impress, the Foxes will still need to upgrade the squad with players who are currently competing in the same league or at a comparable level elsewhere in Europe.

This could afford something of an interesting potential to lure Giorgi Chakvetadze to City. The Georgian and his camp were reportedly interested in a move to the East Midlands during the past January transfer window.

Those talks ultimately fell through, but on the business side of the sport, there are usually options available to revisit past intrigue. Wolverhampton Wanderers are also a team that appears interested in Chakvetadze. Depending on what can be agreed to, the uncertainty of what the LCFC manager situation will look like could prevent the Foxes from being truly considered until the decision surrounding Ruud van Nistelrooy is determined.

In any event, whether it's RvN or someone else who is the new boss, City should make every effort to add the Georgia international to their side.

Coming off a 14th-place finish in the Championship, Chakvetadze was a steady feature for Watford. He made 37 starts in league play and appeared as a substitute twice. Being able to play multiple positions in the attack, he shows the needed skill and flair that was too often completely absent for City.

Needed Leicester addition

His dribbling and playmaking would be nice features for an LCFC side that will be looking to climb back into the Premier League. At the end of the day, teams need players who can win one-on-ones and break down opposing backlines.

Particularly if Bilal El Khannouss leaves, as many reports suggest, replacing the lost potential Championship production from Vardy's and El Khannouss' departure would be a must for City. It wouldn't solve everything by any stretch, but bringing Chakvetadze to Leicester would be a good starting point for the club.
