The mass exodus of underwhelming players continues at Leicester City, even after the East Midlands outfit already parted ways with talents the Blue Army would have much preferred to keep, such as Jeremy Monga and Abdul Fatawu. Those slightly painful exits now sit alongside a definitive clear-out of deadwood; it's finally being cast aside in what supporters will see as a long-overdue clear-up operation.

The critical challenge facing the Leicestershire club is that these senior departures (even the most necessary ones) must be matched by meaningful incoming upgrades if Russell Martin's side is to compete effectively in League One. Only a handful of signings so far look genuinely capable at this level; Harry Howell has impressed since arriving, while Wes Burns brings solid experience, reliability and attacking influence to the third tier.

Further additions like Conor Chaplin and Tommy Watson may yet prove shrewd acquisitions. There remains cautious optimism that the squad will take shape in time among the fan base.

Leicester City to relinquish Wout Faes and Stephy Mavididi

Turning to those heading for the exit, supporters will likely hold mixed feelings over some names, though others will be universally welcomed off the wage bill. Stephy Mavididi appears set to leave King Power Stadium, having failed to build on his EFL title-winning form and falling well short of expectations over the past two underwhelming campaigns.

Moving the wingman on removes a significant salary burden and clears a spot for fresh attacking talent. Even if previously flashes of quality mean his departure divides opinion slightly.

Defensively, Wout Faes is also expected to depart; his exit will be met with zero regret from most quarters. The Belgium international enjoyed just one credible season in Leicester colours, forming part of the triumphant 2023/24 Championship squad under Enzo Maresca alongside Mavididi.

However, Faes has been far below the required standard ever since. Martin has confirmed he anticipates both players finalising moves before the transfer window closes on Tuesday evening, as the squad continues to be reshaped.
