Russell Martin looks to be Leicester City's top choice to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy amid the Dutchman's sacking set to occur imminently. The Foxes endured a frustrating season and are likely parting ways with the Manchester United legend.

The Foxes have reportedly reached a "full agreement" with Martin over replacing Van Nistelrooy, per Football Insider. He's also one of several names on Scottish giants Rangers' shortlist but a move to the King Power could be on the horizon.

Martin's appointment is bound to be met with a fair few raised eyebrows, given he was sacked by Southampton in December. But there's no telling how the Saints would have performed had they kept him in charge rather than turned to Ivan Juric.

The 39-year-old was a hit at St Mary's before the return to the Premier League, guiding them to a play-off final victory last year. His brand of football often earned praise, including from one signing he played an instrumental role in bringing to the South Coast.

Martin should bring Cameron Archer with him to Leicester

Southampton signed Cameron Archer from Aston Villa last summer in a £15m deal. The English attacker said he chose the Saints because of Martin's "playing style, his coaching and trying to improve me as a player".

The 23-year-old managed five goals in 40 games across competitions this season, including three goals in three Carabao Cup outings. He's a versatile forward who can play in various roles but mostly up top.

Archer could be Jamie Vardy's long-term replacement

Jamie Vardy's departure means the club need to find a replacement. While Archer isn't at the level of the Foxes' all-time top scorer, he could be a long-term solution.

Leicester's recruitment must be spot on this summer amid Vardy's exit and Facundo Buonanotte's loan expiring. If Martin is the man for the job, then there'd be no better way to start by swooping for Archer, whom he waxed lyrical about last summer:

"He’s a constant threat with his pace and ability to score goals, and will have learned a lot from playing regularly in the Premier League last season. Now it’s up to us to help him develop and showcase how good he can be at this level.”

Archer's experience playing under Martin makes him an ideal option for the Foxes. He came in and out of Southampton's team this season and may want a more assured starting role which could be offered at the King Power.
