Leicester City still have one key area of the squad to reinforce, and they will likely need to bring in a couple of new centre backs - should even one of Harry Souttar, Caleb Okoli or Wout Faes end up departing King Power Stadium. Some Foxes supporters, along with neutral observers, may question why the East Midlanders cannot simply retain the defensive players they already have at their disposal.

A combination of factors makes keeping this group intact far from straightforward. Souttar has emerged as a fairly sought-after defender, with his commanding performances at the World Cup drawing widespread attention from clubs across Europe. Reports suggest the Australian international has no desire to remain with the East Midlands outfit either.

Okoli, meanwhile, is said to be open to a return to Serie A and has struggled to make a consistent impact since joining LCFC. While Faes has endured a difficult spell in the East Midlands overall, and appears set for an exit.

Manager Russell Martin probably wishes to reshape his defensive line to fit his own tactical vision; which is a particularly frightening factor that adds further momentum to potential departures too. Two of the trio are established internationals commanding substantial wages, creating a financial incentive for the Foxes to sell and reinvest funds wisely.

Potential Leicester City CB replacements

John Souttar of Rangers and Sheffield United's Mark McGuinness have been linked as possible defensive recruits. Though the Blades are reportedly no longer interested in signing Harry Souttar themselves.

Alongside these defensive targets, Yussif Saidu has emerged as a name on Leicester's wishlist. Though he's only a makeshift or utility centre half, to be fair.

Two years ago, Saidu joined Real Zaragoza's youth academy as a traditional box-to-box midfielder, yet his career path would take an unexpected turn that showcased his immense adaptability. Ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, his exceptional displays in preseason earned him a promotion to the first team from then-boss Gabi Fernandez, the legendary Atletico Madrid midfielder.

When a string of injuries ruled out los Blanquillos' first-choice centre back pairing, and financial constraints blocked new signings, the club turned to Saidu to fill the void. He was handed a senior debut in an unfamiliar defensive role.

What could have been a daunting challenge instead became a platform to shine: the 21-year-old adjusted seamlessly to the CB position, standing out with blistering speed, unflinching one-on-one defending and calmness under pressure. Far from merely coping with the change, he flourished, proving himself a remarkably versatile talent capable of excelling wherever called upon. (Tactical insight taken from Rising Starrs)
