The latest unforgettably unacceptable Leicester City performance and result occurred on Saturday afternoon. The visitors, Sheffield United, arrived at lunchtime for a King Power Stadium clash whilst sitting in the English Football League Championship's relegation zone. Some Foxes fans may have expected the weekend's match to be a mere formality as the supposedly superior LCFC squad faced a struggling tier two team.
Though the most recent Leicester encounter was far from straight forward; nothing is seemingly simple on Filbert Way anymore. Even a relegation favourite, or candidate, such as the South Yorkshire side were able to come to LE2 and have everything their own way for at least the first half versus the East Midlanders. Embarrassingly, the Blades were 2-0 up by four minutes of play; the score at half-time was up to 3-0.
As you can imagine, the mood went from cautionary optimism to shock and subsequently anger in the home stands. Many Leicester supporters are now calling for Cifuentes to be dismissed from duty at City. And their demand may soon, apparently, be answered. We are consequently led to believe that this is when the current Leicester boss is likely to be sacked.
Report claims another bad display against Midlands rivals Derby County would be the end for Marti Cifuentes at Leicester City
That's right, the Derby contest may perhaps be the ex-Queens Park Rangers head coach's last for City. I must be honest here, I actually predicted that Cifuentes would be discared by the King Power powers-that-be on, or by, Monday morning.
"As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the defeat to Chris Wilder‘s side has ramped up the pressure on the manager’s position, and another disappointing result against Derby next weekend could see him sacked."Pete O'Rourke, Football Insider
Although when you think about it, this alleged strategy from LCFC's ownership actually makes sense (for once). Give him another game which simply cannot be lost and then call it a day.
We must also bear in mind that City, ostensibly, couldn't afford to sack Ruud van Nistelrooy and rehire another gaffer last season. So finance might dictate here too. Albeit Michael Carrick is the rumoured front runner.
