It is high time that Leicester City Football Club invested in, and generally improved, their defence. As a matter of fact, that development is long overdue at King Power Stadium.
But it is not worth dwelling in the past or crying over spilled milk in sport, as it were, or in life in general. Therefore Leicester's Blue Army faithful must move on and place some faith into, well, not chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha (Top) nor chief football officer Jon Rudkin, but maybe in new manager Russell Martin and his men.
After all, certain necessary signings are finally materialising on Filbert Way. For example, a goalkeeper who fits Martin’s system was required; fresh addition Alex McCarthy played for the 40-year-old at Southampton and looked satisfactory in the involved goalie role in a recent LCFC friendly.
Although, obviously Foxes fans would be forgiven for hoping for somebody slightly younger and better qualified - League One standing dictates once again! Conor Chaplin definitely adds quality to the ranks; the attack-minded midfielder is proven in this very division, and above in the EFL Championship.
In the meantime, Swansea City attacker Liam Cullen is expected to be signed as well; another who worked under the former Scotland international with the Swans for two seasons. Cullen can play as a striker but may be coming to Leicestershire as a wide playmaker or a winger.
Christian McFarlane signs on loan for Leicester City
However, the third confirmed incoming City transfer of summer 2026 was Christian McFarlane of Manchester City, as reported by BBC Sport. Foxes supporters have wanted another left back after the disappointment of Victor Kristiansen, and Luke Thomas remaining generally underwhelming in each and every season.

The Dane has now temporarily left to join Panathinaikos (with an option to buy), leaving the 25-year-old as the only senior left-sided defender. While 19-year-old McFarlane is young, he is an England youth international forecast to intensely battle Thomas for the starting role at LCFC.
The youngster describes his style as aggressive and intense at both ends of the field. Which is exactly the kind of energy and mentality required in LE2; he arrives eager to develop his game knowing that regular first-team minutes are firmly within his grasp.
That competition for places inevitably casts a shadow over Thomas' future as a key part of the setup. He was never an undisputed starter with his position constantly up for grabs; the homegrown professional has everything to prove in the weeks ahead.
