Last season, high profile Leicester City midfielder Harry Winks came under fire from some elements of the Blue Army fan base, including from myself and this very site. We were annoyed, from the outside looking in, that Winks seemingly and essentially refuses to buy into the LCFC culture. The former Tottenham Hotspur and England man was under scrutiny for reportedly choosing to remain living in London and undertaking what is said to be an unnecessary commute to the Foxes' Seagrave training centre.
In addition to that, the ridiculous daily journey Winks supposedly made also affected teammates and preparation. This consequently led to a breakdown in relationship between the footballer and his famour but failed manager at the time, ex-Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy. Winks was accused of not wanting to stay with matchday squads prior to games. This same issue could have now reoccurred during manager Marti Cifuentes' reign on Filbert Way.
I would call that sort of behaviour unacceptable, if pushed, to be absolutely frank with our readership. Although it is far from the worst thing I've heard coming out of a football team! Irrespective, we can now read respected The Telegraph writer John Percy's thoughts or revelations on the matter from this weekend.
Top Leicester City source makes Harry Winks declaration as Fox appears to have new issue with another manager in Marti Cifuentes
After starting the last 13 Leicester fixtures - Winks was omitted from the lineup and substitute's bench for the Derby County clash on Saturday. Cifuentes claimed the reason to be a 'technical decision'. When pushed, he irritatedly replied with the exact same phrase.
"When pushed and asked if he was on good terms with Winks, Cifuentes merely said: “Technical decision.”"Leicester Mercury
This leads us to believe that there is no injury, nor a playing decision, but a possible argument or difference of opinions between player and head coach. What Percy said added fuel to that particular fire:
Big and much needed win for Marti Cifuentes & #lcfc today. Understand Harry Winks was not in the squad after issues in training this week + preparation before last Saturday’s game against Sheff Utd. Coaching staff & some players frustrated. January exit looking very possible
