The search for Marti Cifuentes' successor at Leicester City has intensified, with two prominent names on the club's shortlist already breaking their silence regarding the vacancy. First of all, Derek McInnes, who is currently spearheading an unlikely title charge with Hearts in the Scottish Premiership, was the first to address speculation.

In contrast, former Foxes defender Gary Rowett has seemingly adopted a more measured and tentative tone during a recent televised appearance. While acknowledging his deep affinity for the club where he spent two years as a player, Rowett stopped short of a definitive denial, implying a strong interest.

However, the one-time Derby County boss is cautious: highlighting the significant and myriad challenges awaiting any incoming boss. The articulate 51-year-old specifically cites the looming threat of a points deduction penalty for alleged financial breaches. He ain't dumb!

Derek McInnes and Gary Rowett's respective responses to Leicester City suggestions

Speaking with typical candour and gusto, McInnes appeared to pour cold water on a move to King Power Stadium and England. The respected Scotsman insists he is employed in a job he wants; dismissing the reports as something to be taken with a pinch of salt.

"No, I don't know where that's come from. A club's looking for a manager and these things you take with a pinch of salt. It's clear my focus is here. I'm in a job that I want."

With his side currently sitting clear at the top of the table in Scotland, the lure of historic silverware seemingly outweighs a mid-table battle in the Championship. City supporters did not exactly appear bowled over by the claims. So that one is a dead link.

Moving on to Rowett, he noted that such a Profit and Sustainability sanction would necessitate a flawless end to the season to ensure survival. It seems as though he wants to help; yet he is not blinded by the lights of LE2.

"So, no, look, I think it's like anything, isn't it? Sometimes there's those links, sometimes there's something in it, sometimes there's not, but I'm quite enjoying this seat, at least for the evening."

While interim boss and iconic LCFC hero Andy King prepares the squad for the upcoming clash with Charlton Athletic, the board remain under pressure to secure a permanent appointment. But it must be one who can navigate both the tactical and financial storms ahead and galvanise the faithful.
