Hello Foxes fans, and welcome to the initial match review of the 2025/26 season. I think we can label it thusly, albeit a friendly. The Peterborough United clash was always going to be a strange affair, considering the dire situation Leicester City find themselves in at present, chiefly of their own doing. No manager is in place; club icon and serial winner Andy King is the current interim gaffer. And 'Kingy', as the Blue Army fan base knows him, has seemingly done a good job to begin with.
I won't ruin the narrative which I am about to unfold, but suffice to say City began with a win in the first preseason practice match. Very importantly, two lineups were deployed either side of half-time. If you don't regularly watch LCFC friendlies, it is actually often arranged this way even under differing management styles. That way, almost the entire squad (or those who will be prominent during the term) get 45 minutes in their respective tanks apiece.
In addition to victory and aforesaid fitness benefits, there are other positives for me to bring to the King Power outfits' supporters' attention. City's goals were all netted by up-and-coming Foxes. In fact, one of them scored a brace; more on intriguing 16 year old Louis Page later on. Furthermore, the other scorer was Silko Thomas, somebody who the engaged element of faithful are keen to see more of.
Why Hamza Choudhury, Abdul Fatawu, Wilfried Ndidi, Mads Hermansen missed the Leicester friendly
You can click here for more coverage from today's non-competitive contest. But why were the previously mentioned quartet uninvolved? Choudhury was recently involved in international football, as was Ndidi, giving the pair extended breaks.
"Louis Page: Fast and confident on the ball in the middle of the park, the 16-year-old played centrally and down the right. Opened the scoring with a great finish before making it 2-1. A very successful afternoon."Josh Holland, LCFC Live
Meanwhile Abdul Fatawu has only recently begun full training following serious injury. While Mads Hermansen was also injured; his prospective exit could ultimately force King's hand (finally, I squeezed a Game of Thrones reference in).
