Why Leicester rejected bids for two players they want to sell

Leicester City are currently streamlining their roster for the League One campaign, in the words of BBC Sport. Meanwhile manager Russell Martin admitted the LE2 club, and its fans, must be prepared for further departures.

What should never be forgotten or forgiven, however, is the role played by The King Power International Group's Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha (widely known as Top) and chief football officer Jon Rudkin in creating the deeply distressing situation that has left Blue Army supporters across the globe angry and disillusioned. For those who may not yet grasp the full scale of the upheaval, it was Top Srivaddhanaprabha who made the staggering decision to make every single first-team player available for transfer this summer.

This sweeping directive has triggered a mass exodus from the squad and plunged the club into a period of unprecedented uncertainty just as it grapples with life in the third tier of English football. Amid all the frustration and heartache, one small consolation for supporters is that the organisation appears to be securing some very decent fees for the players moving on.

Rudkin has long held a reputation as a tough negotiator who rarely settles for less than he believes a player is worth, and that determination has so far prevented LCFC from underselling key assets. Even so, it is impossible to offer him too much praise when considering the litany of personnel missteps he has overseen, both in the signings brought in and those allowed to leave over recent years.

Rudkin's track record is marred by too many costly errors to view these acceptable transfer valuations as anything more than a partial and temporary success. Right now, Leicester are confirmed to be seeking the sale of two first-team players, for whom they have already rejected incoming offers.

Leicester City duo to depart once appropriate bids transpire

The first is winger Stephy Mavididi, whose recent time at King Power Stadium has been marked by inconsistency and frustration, rather than the impact made when he initially arrived. He's given far too many quiet performances and failed to become the creative and threatening force the team needed.

Also likely to be heading for the exit door is defender Wout Faes; the once-promising Foxes defender's quality nosedived since joining the LE2 side. Shaky displays and costly errors and a drastic loss of form were only interpreted, once again, when Enzo Maresca was on Filbert Way.

"...if they [Faes and Mavididi] stay, no problem, we'd be really happy with both being here, but with the level of interest that we have.

"We've turned down bids for both, but that's ongoing, so we'll see, but I'm not sure any will go soon"
Russell Martin - BBC Sport

The club are simply holding out for fair and appropriate valuations rather than accepting whatever offers come their way, a stance clearly reflected in previous transfer dealings this summer. Martin himself verified that no deals are close to being finalised for either player, meaning both could yet remain at the club beyond the end of the transfer window.
