Why this Leicester great could be a better appointment than Darren Ferguson

Opting to go with this Leicester City great as the Foxes' next manager, post-Gary Rowett, could be a better managerial appointment than handing Darren Ferguson the reins.

Leicester City seriously need to get this next managerial appointment spot on, having had wretched luck in this department over recent seasons.

Indeed, ever since Enzo Maresca spearheaded the Foxes to the Championship title during his debut season at the helm, the success rate with managers coming into the building has been pitiful.

Steve Cooper's stint in charge is horribly forgettable, looking back, while Ruud Van Nistelrooy would firmly plant the nail in Leicester's coffin, when relegation down to the Championship was confirmed with a whimper under his stewardship.

Marti Cifuentes was far too up-and-down with his results in the King Power hot-seat to be kept around long-term, while Gary Rowett has been an abject failure, as opposed to being a stabilising presence, with only two wins collected in charge, which means he's hardly at the top of the manager shortlist now, to guide the Foxes into the tough environment of League One.

This awful track record will seriously worry Leicester fans, heading into the third tier, and they don't seem to be best pleased by the possibility of Darren Ferguson coming in to replace Rowett.

Ferguson being linked is underwhelming for Leicester fans

Despite clinching three promotions out of League One in the past with Peterborough United, the Scotsman is hardly a jaw-dropping name that will unite a fractured fanbase.

He has struggled away from the comforts of London Road, too, so there might well be serious doubts in the air that he could be a success in charge of the Midlands giants, with the weight of expectation that would be on his shoulders.

Ultimately, the powers that be at the Foxes need to bring in a manager who could bring success back to the sleeping behemoth, who will also be a presence that Leicester fans will love to cheer on from the King Power stands.

Ferguson might not be that man, unfortunately, as his fourth spell with Posh ended on sour terms.

Instead of going down the seasoned EFL route, Leicester could be prepared to give a rookie head coach a chance, who knows the DNA of the Foxes well.

Leicester could look to appoint this former great

An outside of the box approach, when searching for Rowett's successor, might well work, with ex-Leicester full-back - who once lifted the Premier League title aloft at the King Power - Christian Fuchs a potential Foxes boss in the making.

After all, he has proven himself to be a manager who can handle the intense pressures of the EFL at the helm of Newport County.

Indeed, heading into the final League Two game of the season, Newport needed to clinch a result at fellow basement battler Barrow to secure their Football League status, and they did just that, in a 2-1 win in Cumbria.

The Austrian would jump for joy at the full-time whistle, having steered the Welsh outfit to League Two survival during his first proper season as a head coach, with the achievement hailed as "incredible."

Upgrading him to Leicester head coach duties could be viewed as a very brash next step, but if Leicester wants their next manager to be universally popular, as opposed to having an indifferent relationship with fans like Rowett, Fuchs would be able to step in and be just that, having always worn his heart on his sleeve during his playing days for the Foxes.

Ferguson, on the other hand, does feel slightly like more of what has previously been served up, if he were handed the reins, with a daring appointment, like handing the 40-year-old the job post, perhaps working more in Leicester's favour, as a bright new future is hopefully on the horizon.
