It is time for Leicester City to properly assess their new Algerian winger Rachid Ghezzal. Fleetwood Town at home is the perfect opportunity.

League One outfit Fleetwood Town, now managed by the notorious Joey Barton, face Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in the second round of the Carabao Cup, Tuesday. An ideal chance for summer signing Rachid Ghezzal to get up to pace and impress his boss and followers.

Ghezzal is a winger from Algeria. In his former career, he represented Lyon and Monaco: featuring in the Europa League and Champions League. In addition, Ghezzal represented France at U20 level and later Algeria at senior level on 13 occasions. Strong pedigree.

Under Claude Puel at Lyon, the 26-year-old did not make his debut. But the Frenchman says his recent inclusion adds creativity and competition to his side. His brother Abdelkader is also a full Algerian international.

WhoScored describes Ghezzal as a left/right/centre attacking midfielder. Which is promising; if he does not impose himself at left-wing, his position can alter across the line. On whoscored.com, his style of play explanation includes: cutting inside, playing long balls, shooting from distance and keeping the ball low for layoffs.

Ghezzal is also particularly adept in winning the ball back; a department and desire his predecessor lacked dramatically at. Impressions from the Foxes new man’s two brief appearances suggest all of the above is prevalent. An eager, exciting King Power prospect.

Likely Fleetwood starters

There is a chance for Andy King and Danny Simpson to improve their respective standing in the side. Which is non-existent at present, as Puel favours others.

Layton Ndukwu, Raul Uche and Bartosz Kapustka will not feature. This is despite impressing on Monday for the development squad. The fixtures are just too close. In addition, Hamza Choudhury and Callum Elder also began the match against Blackburn and are doubtful to play for the seniors in any capacity, Tuesday.

Obvious comparison

Do not expect a player who can rival the superstar performances of a Riyad Mahrez, yet half the output of his countryman over a season is ample in replacement. Consequently, Ghezzal must be his own man, but comparison in playing style and end product with Mahrez is inevitable.

Match Choices

Manager Puel spoke about the game recently on Leicester City’s website; he is planning wholesale changes for the Codmen clash:

"“We will have some rotation like the other games since the beginning of the Premier League season because it is important to keep the players fresh.“We need them to keep a good mentality, a strong desire and to remain fresh. I want all the squad to give us a good response on Tuesday night and we know it is a difficult game.”– Claude Puel (Via: lcfc.com)"
