Caglar Soyuncu will make his debut for Leicester City against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup
Leicester City supporters will finally see Caglar Soyuncu in the first team. Despite it being a standard order, rotational Carabao Cup event – it will be exciting to gauge the Turkish defender against decent opposition.
Leicester City have a short journey to play Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup Third Round. It is a chance for fringe and periphery players to stake a claim for a first team spot in future. One of the supporting cast is Caglar Soyuncu; the Turkish international’s debut is much-anticipated.
Soyuncu is highly rated in his own country – naturally, as an international. In fact, Leicester City started courting his services last year. He joined while still nursing an injury and has only appeared – some say a little awkwardly – for the development squad.
However, suspension for Foxes captain Wes Morgan gave Jonny Evans his chance – which was reasonably taken – to replace Morgan short-term. That, following an uninspiring debut from the Northern Irishman in favour of Morgan against Wolves last month.
Soyuncu now finds himself, possibly, needed sooner than expected. Regardless of Morgan’s absence – defensive alterations are imperative. Described by WhoScored similarly to Leicester City’s main man in defence, Harry Maguire, meaning: Soyuncu is confident and comfortable on the ball; while being able to read the opponent’s play superbly well ahead of time.
Whereas, his ability to stop the opposition sometimes becomes slightly overzealous – causing the young centre-back to be reprimanded. Do not be surprised to see more cards than Hallmark stock.
When Soyuncu signed for approximately £19m in August, he was required to wait a week for the formality of a work permit. A huge earner with national sporting credentials and a clean record never misses out on clearance.
Manager Claude Puel made some questionable tinkering team decisions for the Huddersfield Town match on Saturday at the King Power Stadium – according to this writer.
Fortunately for the Blue Army and the man himself, the East Midlands club eventually, convincingly attained the three points. Indeed, the Premier League will be the true test of Soyuncu’s skill level.
Further likelihood of a debut
Evans will likely be Soyuncu’s partner in a typical 4-2-3-1 formation for Leicester City gaffer Puel. This is because the Frenchman stated he will “Perhaps” rest Maguire: “…we will see”. Continuing: “It is a good opportunity [to defeat Wolves] because we have a fantastic squad and it is time to give them some game time and maintain the results.” Quote via Leicester Mercury.
Regardless of ‘talking up’ a player like the Turkish starlet, the 22-year-old may give an anticlimactic display – although, if even half of what he is capable of materialises – Leicester City will have another ‘cheap’ gem on their hands.
