Assessing the extent of Dan Amartey’s injury while playing for Leicester City. What’s the damage and how long is he out for:

Leicester City drew 1-1 with 10-man West Ham United on Saturday. Following Mark Noble’s dismissal, the Foxes were frustrated not to claim all three points. However, Wilfred Ndidi’s deflected equaliser came in the 89th minute, giving a solitary point for the occasion.

Unfortunately, Leicester City’s Dan Amartey was stretchered off during the match with a suspected broken leg. ESPN report that the midfielder-turned-defender will be out of action for the remainder of the season:

"“Leicester City’s Ghanaian defender Daniel Amartey looks set to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a broken ankle on Saturday.“Amartey has taken to Twitter to declare the operation a success and says he “will be back stronger”, but the injury represents a major setback for him.(Via: ESPN)"

At present, Leicester City have not commented on the extent of the injury. While, the Ghana international is typically upbeat about the problem to his progress via social media.

From his hospital bed, Amartey was able to monitor the ongoing disaster at the King Power Stadium. Mourners can pay their respects by signing the online book of condolences at lcfc.com, or at the ground.

While the right-back was undergoing surgery, the dreaded news of Leicester City’s wonderful chairman, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha’s tragic death was announced. Amartey woke to this, sadly. Although, it is a positive that his operation was a success.

The Ghanaian did not lay around convalescing at the hospital or in bed, he was up to visit the tribute site of Khun Vichai to pay his respects, as soon as the doctors would allow it. Respect to him, at the most sorrowful of times for the club. While, it is likely the Blue Army will not see him playing again this term. Though, manager Claude Puel says it will only be four months sidelined.

Ricardo, Simpson, Albrighton

If Amartey is unavailable until next August, then which is the most appropriate replacement? Considering he has appeared in nine-out-of-ten games in 2018/19? Ricardo Pereira is now the obvious choice at right-back, if Puel decides to continue with a 4-man defence.

Yet, a 3-4-3 is the optimum choice for the roster’s attributes; especially Ricardo’s. Making the Portuguese a wing-back/right-midfield, will utilise his attacking finesse; which far outweighs his defensive quality. January’s transfer window awaits.

Will Puel decide to bring Danny Simpson back into the fold? He’s been out-in-the-cold with the Under-23s for the whole campaign thus far. Maybe the former Manchester United player should receive another chance. There’s always the option of the versatile Marc Albrighton. Effort and determination would not be an issue, and crosses can still come in from right-wing-back/right midfield.
