Leicester City vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, who is thought to now control the club since his father Vichai’s tragic passing, has explained why Claude Puel had to be sacked.

A very swift and assertive decision emerged simultaneously to the starting lineup for the Brighton & Hove Albion match via an announcement on Twitter on Tuesday evening. Brendan Rodgers was confirmed as the new Leicester City boss, to the glee of the forward thinking Blue Army.

Hopefully this new experienced and significant manager will be the one to lead the club to successful consistent European qualification, claiming a regular 7th spot in the Premier League. It’s certainly doable.

Along with, potentially, cracking the top-six premiership teams – only really likely if one of the huge clubs in that vicinity have a bad season or Rodgers builds exceedingly well. That is unlikely, although the addition of the Northern Irishman and Youri Tielemans in January is a statement of staggering intent.

Meanwhile, in the vice-chairman’s programme notes, Aiyawatt – or Top – Srivaddhanaprabha gave his reasons for sacking previous Foxes gaffer Claude Puel:

Leicester Mercury transcribed the statement:

"“Following Sunday’s defeat here against Crystal Palace – not simply the result itself, but the circumstances and feeling surrounding it – it was clear to me that, regrettably, a change of manager would be necessary to keep the club moving in the right direction.“It’s never an easy thing to do. It’s always been my preference to give the manager time to overcome challenges and develop a squad that can grow stronger together and make progress through shared improvement and experience.“Football is such a competitive environment, especially in the Premier League, and it’s important that ups and downs are kept in perspective. But when it becomes clear that long-term progress has become compromised, it can be necessary to initiate change.”– Top Srivaddhanaprabha"

It came as no surprise that the Frenchman was relieved from duty after many lacklustre home displays at the King Power Stadium; not to mention the loss of faith from a huge majority of the faithful. Although, Puel handled himself with dignity through a difficult period as Leicester City manager.

While the 57-year-old also received praise for his policy of playing quality youthful talent by throwing them into important matches. This is, according to Mirror Sport, one of the reasons Brendan Rodgers decided to take the helm on Filbert Way.

Mike Stowell and Adam Sadler took charge of the first contest since Puel’s dismissal, as the Foxes defeated Brighton 2-1. Goals from Demarai Gray and Jamie Vardy were enough to see off the Seagulls. Rodgers takes over from the caretaker duo for the Watford meeting on Sunday.
