Recently appointed Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers was asked if he would or could one day return to Celtic as manager – his answer may surprise you.

Brendan Rodgers’ reign at Leicester City began with a disappointing last minute loss to Watford on Sunday. 2-1 was the final score after the Foxes battled back into the match, via an exquisite Jamie Vardy finish from a beautiful Youri Tielemans through ball.

A characteristically poor Kasper Schmeichel distribution kick left a hole in midfield which the Hornets picked apart in a flash. Before Andre Gray gave his team, and the unhappy Celtic supporters, a winning goal to cheer.

With regards to system and team selections, Rodgers went bafflingly full-Claude Puel methodology: reinstating veteran club captain Wes Morgan, playing a new experimental three-centre-back formation and having the side pass aimlessly sideways and backwards as usual – which arguably cost Leicester a point. Not to mention, a complete deficiency of inventiveness upfront.

More from Foxes of Leicester

Although, it is unfair of this writer to disregard the obvious, tremendously positive and exuberant contemporary feeling around the squad. Many players have stated, including Ben Chilwell, that they are very encouraged by the Northern Irishman’s arrival. Subsequently saying they may stay Foxes longer than first expected.

Celtic-to-Leicester City-to?

This is what the 46-year-old said in response to a question regarding if he would ever return as manager of the Hoops:

"“Yes. Absolutely. 100 percent. I’d be hugely disappointed if I never could go back there after everything that I’ve given.“I loved every single second of being there. When it calms down in maybe 10 years, I could maybe go back to Celtic.“I’m experienced enough and I’ve been around football for long enough now with coaching. And the experience I’ve gained has allowed me not to get too affected by words.“I tend to focus more on the good side. Supporters will hurt and I get that.”Via Reuters"

First of all it must be explained that being upset at the management leaving part of the way through an important campaign is completely understandable. And the vast majority of Celtic fans are great examples of passionate caring for their team.

Will the minority of vocally abominable Celtic fans accept Rodgers’ words or an eventual return? No. It will be even more maddening to that small-minded faction of generally great support. Would that incensed part of the Hoops faithful, whom wished death on their decorated but departed manager, welcome him back in 10 years? Definitely not. Expect a pathetic response to the hypothetical once again.
