Rumour Mill: Leicester City defender set for Manchester United switch?
Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire is willing to move to Manchester United this summer, according to the Mirror.
The 26-year old had been targeted by United last summer, too, with reports suggesting that Jose Mourinho had been given the go-ahead to sign the England international.
However, Maguire felt that he wasn’t quite prepared for the big money move to Old Trafford and decided to stay for another season.
The Mirror suggest that he is ready to become a United player now and will leave if they do come again for him this summer.
Like many of Leicester’s top talents, Maguire does have a long-term contract with the club with four years still remaining on his current deal.
What that means is that the Foxes are in a very strong position to negotiate and are likely to not let the centre-back leave for anything less than £50 million.
In fact, they may even ask for a world-record fee, which would mean something in excess of the £75 million that Liverpool paid for Virgil Van Dijk. If United do pay that, it’s a jackpot hit for Leicester; if they don’t, they do manage to keep hold of one of the best defenders in the country. Either way, it’s a win for the club.
Still, Leicester must be careful with what they do and what they don’t this summer. As we understand, Kasper Schmeichel and Ben Chilwell are both headed for the exit door. If that does indeed happen, that would leave Brendan Rodgers with quite a job to do in the transfer window.
Irrespective of the lucrative offers made, you surely can’t ship out all of your best players in one summer?
