Leicester star and manager nominated for prestigious awards
After a thrilling and then excitingly frustrating campaign for Leicester City, Jamie Vardy and Brendan Rodgers have been nominated for prestigious awards.
You may take exception to my little introduction above, “excitingly frustrating”, but it truly was: the run-in saw Leicester City supporters on the edge of their seats right up until the final moments. Well, up to the point when Kasper Schmeichel decided to end the Foxes’ Champions league challenge with an ill-advised and Under-11s Sunday League-style effort at bypassing a demoralised Jesse Lingard.
Then there is the restart – oh where to begin? Errm, it wasn’t a successful time for the East Midlanders, whatsoever! Although, the players and boss certainly had a valid Get Out of Jail Free Card, as Ricardo Pereira – arguably Leicester’s most consistent performer and vital athlete – missed the entire return.
Then Caglar Soyuncu’s uncharacteristic petulance eradicated his glowing influence for the final three outings. Losing Ben Chilwell as well as James Maddison was an immeasurable, irrevocable deprivation for the evolving, young team.
Yet there were incredibly positive outcomes, too: the discovery of the ice-cool Luke Thomas, an academy graduate and future England star for sure. Not to mention the amazing aim of reentry into European football being realised through Europa League qualification.
Awards for Leicester City star and manager
The Premier League has announced its nominations for this year’s division awards. Jamie Vardy is on the prestigious list for Player of the Season, following his Golden Boot trophy.
Rodgers, meanwhile, can be satisfied with his nod for Manager of the Season. Click either linked sentence to vote. Harvey Barnes’s superb finish against Sheffield United has also been nominated for Goal of the Season – good luck, Harvey!
