Chelsea have apparently made a breakthrough in their quest for the signature of Leicester City and England left-back Ben Chilwell.

Yes, it’s still ongoing. Much to all our frustration. Trust me. Ben Chilwell’s much discussed transfer from Leicester City to Chelsea is seemingly back on, according to gossip. That is despite conflicting reports from another large media outlet earlier this very week.

Foxes of Leicester wrote a piece on Tuesday outlining the then latest on the England man. Speculation is still that the Foxes value one of their most prized assets, Chilwell, at a minimum of £80 million. Therefore to prospectively buy him would mean he becomes the most expensive defender in world football.

Following this supposed revelation, it was revealed that the Pensioners would not pay such a high amount for Chilwell. No surprises there – FoL labelled it a ridiculous price-tag. However, it appears the King Power outfit placed such a steep fee to ward off competition for a part of the squad they consider crucial.

That potential deal would put the No. 3 ahead of Harry Maguire as the record holder. Maguire, also a Three Lions regular, was with the East Midlanders when he left for Old Trafford to become a Manchester United player.
