Leicester City are set to reignite their interest in Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor with a £20 million bid, according to reports.

Last summer former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was very keen on the 27-year-old. Multiple enquiries were pushed back by the Scottish champions, which then led to Callum McGregor signing a new 5-year contract.

It is believed that The Hoops’ exit from Champions League qualifiers is the catalyst for this interest. But with McGregor a boyhood Celtic fan and a mainstay in their side, it is unlikely he will move.

Celtic are prepared and expecting a bid now The Foxes have money in the bank following Ben Chilwell’s transfer to Chelsea for £50 million.

Rodgers worked with the Scottish international when he was the Celtic manager during the infamous ‘treble treble’ era, but how realistic is this transfer and will it help the Leicester squad in the upcoming season?

McGregor would join the former Premier League champions with a lot of competition for his main position (central midfield).  Youri Tielemans, Wilfred Ndidi, James Maddison, Dennis Praet, Hamza Choudhury and Papy Mendy are all fighting for starting places, so where would McGregor fit in here?

The answer under a different manager might be a lot simpler, though with Rodgers clearly a favourite of the left footer, he could be getting more game time than predicted.

The only problem with this transfer is Celtic, who will not be looking to sell. However, with other positions needing to be addressed, that’s not the worst scenario for Leicester City.
