Leicester must act fast to secure transfer target as bid emerges
Capitulating due to pressure over an overpriced valuation might be Leicester City’s best option in the chase for Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski.
Wilfred Ndidi has been tried and consequently considered as a viable, makeshift centre-back for Leicester City for the Premier League opener. This is because Croat Filip Benkovic is unfit and Northern Irishman Jonny Evans is suspended.
An impression of incompetence is being transmitted by the Foxes’ Recruitment department: to be frank, it is an error for there to only be one senior centre-half available for selection in a vital season, in a crucial starting match.
Granted, there apparently isn’t a big budget for transfers; but this is the most demanding division in world football so it isn’t sufficient planning. Surely some of the club’s records breaking fees for sales over the last few seasons should be reinvested.
Now a legitimate target for the East Midlanders may escape them. Burnley have reportedly received a £27 million bid for James Tarkowski from West Ham United.
While Leicester must act fast to secure the player, their higher offer of £30m was rejected a year ago.
Next up for Leicester city
The Foxes’ absent contingent should all have returned from international duty for training by Thursday morning. That only gives Brendan Rodgers three days to convey his plan before their league campaign begins with a tricky trip to newly promoted West Bromwich Albion.
With a rather unsatisfactory transfer window so far, along with uneven friendly performances, Rodgers’ team are not in premium condition. Compounding the squad are injuries and the previously mentioned significant suspension.
