After debut goalscoring heroics against West Bromwich Albion, Brendan Rodgers explains how new Leicester City man, Timothy Castagne, is ready-made for the Premier League.

What a debut for Timothy Castagne. Leicester City’s latest Belgian addition – the Foxes now have a trio from Belgium, along with Youri Tielemans and Dennis Praet – was a thorn in the side of West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.

Every observer could almost instantly see that Castagne has the skill set, strength and temperament to succeed in the Premier League. Statistically he was also impressive.

Monster stats for Leicester City man

Height has been an issue at Leicester in recent seasons, so the Red Devils man’s introduction really made a difference in that department. Obviously his headed finish was one high point, but he also won five other aerial duels.

In defensive areas, the new Fox was also instrumental in the East Midlanders’ triumph: 3 successful tackles, two interceptions, two clearances and a solitary foul make for a very convincing initial appearance.

Elsewhere Castagne’s passing needs some refinement; while some of his crossing was slightly wild and unmeasured. Nevertheless, his first match was wholly impressive; only one poor touch is the sign of a master at elite level.

In fact, Castagne’s boss Brendan Rodgers was thrilled with his defender’s game. Rodgers said the full-back was thoroughly “brilliant“; citing his athleticism and general suitability to the English top-flight. The manager was “delighted” for his wonderful new signing.
