Leicester fans will agree with Jamie Vardy’s statement after Arsenal win
Following the first Leicester City triumph away at Arsenal in 47 years, striker and match-winner Jamie Vardy said something crucial.
The current Leicester City team have achieved an historic victory over London club Arsenal, as the Foxes haven’t won away at a Gunners ground since 1973. Many people believe it was Brendan Rodgers’ ‘rope a dope’ stratagem that ultimately won his side the game.
And that is very difficult to argue with, as for more than 60 minutes Leicester were happy to sit back and take all the punches that Mikel Arteta’s outfit would throw at them. Yet it’s a risky manoeuvre: Rodgers was lucky that their opponents couldn’t bury one of the three or four excellent chances.
In addition, the decision for the disallowed Alexandre Lacazette goal affected by Granit Xhaka could’ve gone either way, in all honesty. But, to the victor belong the spoils of war so the Northern Irishman should feel satisfied and content with three points and another historical claim over the so-called ‘Big Six’.
Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy is correct
After the thrilling fixture, solitary goalscorer Jamie Vardy spoke to the media about the game. Daily Mail quote him as saying, “We just have to keep building on that [win] now”, where Vardy is naturally referring to results.
However, it can also be interpreted as a cryptic message to the King Power club as a whole: they have made amazing strides, but have to maintain the side’s evolution.
It was particularly difficult for Foxes of Leicester to nominate a singular Man of the Match awardee for the Foxes. Jonny Evans was impenetrable and ultra committed, Vardy and Cengiz Under conducted their match-winning business – but Wesley Fofana and Papy Mendy were absolutely outstanding. Statistically their most standout features were, for Fofana, an impressive five interceptions. Not to mention Mendy’s exceptional passing completion rate of 95.9 per cent.
