Former Leicester City winger Matt Piper believes his ex-club have bridged the gap with top Premier League teams, but success hinges on Jamie Vardy.

Leicester City maintained their excellent recent form in the Premier League with a hard-earned 1-0 victory versus Wolverhampton Wanderers.

This was always going to be a contest that determined more than bragging rights between the two Midlands outfits. A sort of planting of the flag on the EPL table – which Brendan Rodgers’ impressive team now top.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are well-organised and more than a match for most top-flight encounters. Jamie Vardy is having another wonderful campaign; the striker is now joint top of the goalscoring chart, with eight finishes so far. That feat comes in what many observers would have imagined could be approaching the twilight era of his wonderful tenure at Leicester. Oh no – how wrong they were, indeed.
