Leicester player wanted by club for permanent January transfer
Leicester City will be lookin to sell and loan players in January. But could the wages of Islam Slimani prevent a permanent transfer?
There are currently reports doing the rounds that suggest French outfit Saint-Etienne – from whom Leicester City just about managed to prize away the amazing Wesley Fofana – are interested in acquiring the services of the Foxes’ Islam Slimani.
Slimani was an outcast, a ghost, unwanted under several managers at King Power Stadium. That includes contemporary boss Brendan Rodgers. Although, for some reason, the Northern Irishman made a public u-turn on the Algerian’s status which was ‘surplus to requirements’ on Filbert Way as this season began.
Rodgers went so far as to suggest he’ll alter his system to incorporate Slimani in a Plan B – Rodgers doesn’t usually field or use tall target men whatsoever – after the club failed to arrange a sale or loan deal for the striker. You didn’t detect even a hint of suspicion from this writer there, honest.
Will Saint-Etienne conduct more transfer business with Leicester City?
French media outlet L’Equipe suggests that Slimani’s £65,000-per-week wages may scupper the prospective switch to France, as reiterated by HITC.
There’s also another key aspect of the Algeria international’s future here: his contract expires at the end of the campaign, therefore side’s such as St. Etienne may well attempt to secure his services for free next year.
Former Liverpool favourite John Aldridge says Leicester’s Vardy is a “absolutely flying and that’s a bit scary”. In fact, Aldridge assesses the latter as more of a goal threat, presently, than Golden Boot rival and Tottenham Hotspur and England centre-forward, Harry Kane. Naturally the former Reds man is concerned for his injury ravaged ex-team as they prepare for the Foxes’ visit. It just goes to show the No.9’s prominence among his revered peers for Aldridge to make this statement, also per HITC.
