Leicester January transfers: how new injury will impact window
A fresh and particularly unwanted injury will affect Leicester City’s January transfer window. How much will Dennis Praet’s absence impact the team?
If Dennis Praet is actually sidelined for up to three months, as was reported in the Belgian press, then there will be a slight domino effect at Leicester City. Which, Foxes of Leicester feels, could limit the Foxes’ already restrained January transfer window.
Praet is a particularly underrated part of the east Midlands side, and is a loss that will be felt. While the Belgium international does not always feature from the start, his versatility is a staple of the team, overall.
Obviously it is never a positive development for club and personnel when injures occur, that goes without saying. However, in this case there is a quick fix. Or, rather than an adjustment, to be more accurate – simply not selling defensive-minded midfield man Hamza Choudhury.
Knock on effects of Dennis Praet injury at Leicester City
First of all, the almost perfectly balanced Leicester squad depth is worsened, naturally. But thankfully, the hole can be plugged by a slightly less adaptable, more rigid version. That’s not to say that Choudhury’s play is basic or rudimentary: remember his goal away at Newcastle United last season?
Nevertheless, this development is a major one for Choudhury: he was expected to be sold, after Brendan Rodgers suggested as much. Though, the fact that the manager also claimed that the Academy graduate wouldn’t be loaned anywhere was also curious. In FoL’s view, Choudhury is needed in general for exactly the circumstances that have arisen.
Whereas Rodgers also said it’s unlikely significant signings will be made this month, before Praet was injured; FoL doesn’t envisage that assessment altering subsequent to the latter’s issue. Another option is recalling Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who on loan at Luton Town. A better duplicate of Praet, yet unlikely to be recalled from a successful loan, as we see it.
A bit of extra news for you now, as Filip Benkovic will complete his switch to King Power owned OH Leuven, as per Leicestershire Live.
