Leicester City lost 2-0 to Manchester City after a poor display. But that wasn’t the worst news of the day as there’s a positive COVID-19 test in the squad.

Caglar Soyuncu missed the entire run-in for 2019/20 because of his own doing: the old-fashioned yet slick centre-half was sent off for petulance against Bournemouth in the most crucial part of the Foxes’ campaign last year.

Unfortunately, he is now missing from action at a similar time as he has tested positive for coronavirus. Hopefully the Turkey international will return before the end of this season, which is likely.

In fact, Brendan Rodgers will be desperate for that particular comeback as his centre-back was sorely missed versus soon-to-be champions Man City. Daniel Amartey filled in for Soyuncu, and, while the Ghanaian was no worse than the other very poor performers in the 2-0 loss – he is Championship level or a Premier League squad player at best!

That means no disrespect to Amartey, he’s very committed though just not sufficient for the aspirations of the club. But I suppose he isn’t an intended starter; it’s not his fault either. What Rodgers should have done is altered his system and formation prior to the match when Soyuncu was rendered unavailable. Alas, I digress. Here is more on the CB.

The duration of Soyuncu’s absence is currently unknown, as per BBC Sport, so don’t ask us how long he will be out for. Hopefully due to his youthfulness and fitness he will recover very quickly; yet let me tell you that this virus is no joke, at all!

Foxes of Leicester would like to take this opportunity to wish the Fox all the best for a speedy recovery.

In separate EPL cases of contraction, some athletes have come back to training for their teams in around ten days. Let’s hope Soyuncu is on an airplane back to England very soon.
