Leicester City have been linked with a move for a squad player who might be a perfect signing for the ambitious King Power club.

Transfer speculation will soon engulf us all when the Premier League takes its summer break and Euro21 finally arrives. There are already many stories in the sports media sphere; some outlandish, a few do have credibility, believability or suitability.

And your friendly Foxes of Leicester will attempt to sift through the rubbish with a cynical eye. While FoL will otherwise recommend quality insight from the most realistic sources.

For example, Ainsley Maitland-Niles is a player the Foxes are again linked with, as per Telegraph. There was talk during the last off-season, or possibly earlier, about Leicester moving for the West Bromwich Albion loaned Arsenal man. Maitland-Niles is more than an elite level utility athlete: I constantly championed his signing on Filbert Way and haven’t changed my mind about the versatile defender/midfielder/winger.

Furthermore, the Gunners graduate would certainly be an upgrade on certain other contemporary Foxes who are considered ‘squad players’.

The England international was at one time thought to be on the same career trajectory as team-mate Bukayo Saka, but Saka has overtaken somewhat. Yet Maitland-Niles definitely has a similar Arsenal pedigree, as FoL sees it.

Sven Goran Eriksson on modern Leicester City

Former boss of the King Power club, Sven Goran Eriksson, has commented on the Foxes’ EPL run-in. Speaking prior to the defeat to Manchester City – which won’t affect the ex-England manager’s opinion as the Citizens are a great side and runaway champions effectively – the Swede was very complimentary.
