If reports are to be believed, Leicester City are close to signing German full-back Robin Gosens from Atalanta.

This will be a big development for Leicester fans as a quality player from a lauded nation for football – well, Germany used to be such a force, and you can guarantee that they will rise again – will be a significant capture.

Most notably and rather coincidentally, Gosens is at the same Italian outfit as Timothy Castagne before the Belgian joined the Foxes. Additionally, making the similarities more spooky, the former is also a defender; yet his preferred position is left-back, whereas Castagne doesn’t particularly relish playing on that side of the pitch.

Most of the Blue Army – the collective name for Leicester supporters – will surely endorse the potential acquisition of the 26-year-old: this season the attack-minded player, who can also play left-midfield, has captivated la Dea’s (the Goddess’) faithful in Serie A.

In 2020/21 Gosens solidified himself as one of the best full-backs in Italy’s top division. Incredibly, he scored 10 goals and facilitated six more for his colleagues; a fantastically high number for a non-forward or attacking midfielder.

Germans were around Filbert Way for a few years recently, with varying degrees of success; one being Robert Huth, along with Ron-Robert Zieler.

Sport Witness carries a story now claiming that the former Heracles Almelo man is close to joining the King Power club. Furthermore, it says the athlete himself has his heart set on the Foxes.
