Man United, Real Madrid plot move for Leicester star
By Akash Roy
Manchester United and Real Madrid are reportedly interested in snatching Leicester City’s star defensive midfielder in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to Fichajes, that player is none other than the Nigerian international Wilfred Ndidi. The 24-year-old midfielder has captivated Premier League fans with his central defensive prowess in recent times.
Ndidi has established himself amongst the top CDMs of the League. No wonder why such a player would attract the eyeballs of big recruiters from mammoth clubs and be sought after by them, who are often well known to snatch gems from others by throwing astronomical funds on the table.
Leicester City recruited Ndidi at the start of 2017. He left Genk during the winter transfer window to join the Foxes. Every season he has constantly improved and has managed to average a solid rating beyond seven in each of them. The King Power club felt a drastic need to replace the likes of N’Golo Kante, who left City after their title-winning season.
One cannot comprehensively compare them, but Wilfred has done justice by being more than a worthy replacement for Kante. Ndidi has cemented his place as a regular starter and has made 173 appearances for LCFC. This season he also played in a center-back role when the manager was out of options during their frequent injury crisis.
The clubs’ need for the Leicester City star
These accolades have peaked the collective interests of clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid. Real has failed to find a worthy subordinate to Casemiro. Other players like Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are expected to slow down as they enter into the twilight of their careers. At such a time, the midfield department looks very weak for the Los Blancos. A player like Ndidi can add a lot of depth to their central department in the future.
Similarly, for United, Solskjær has made it public that he is in search of a similar athlete as he is rather unsatisfied with Fred. With players like Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata making sporadic appearances, he will surely be head over heels to be genuinely inclined towards someone like Ndidi.
Their interests could turn into a concrete offer in the upcoming weeks for the Nigerian midfielder. It would be interesting to see how much the club values its CDM when a club approaches with an offer. Though we feel that Leicester City isn’t a selling club anymore as it used to be. But if the offer is shiny and spectacular, the player in question might be tempted to push the club for a move.
