Will Brendan Rodgers be offered a new Leicester deal?
By Akash Roy
Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, is postulated to be offered a new deal that washes away all the speculations that relate him with Tottenham.
Rodgers emerged as a no-brainier when he was tipped, as a potential candidate, for the Tottenham Hotspur job upon the sacking of José Mourinho. Since then, Rodgers has shoved aside the speculations and has been quite vocal about his contentment with his responsibilities at the King Power Club.
Recently he said this on the subject :-
"“It’s on repeat: I’m very, very happy here and I’m happy because I’ve got a set of players that give me their heart and soul every single day, and also I can see a future here in terms of the development of the squad. I’ve got a really strong relationship with the board. We work very closely together.“For me I always knew what the challenge was coming here, to try and improve the squad and I think over the last couple of years what we’ve been able to do is build an infrastructure around behavior and creating a mindset in order to win. That’s not easy and it’s taken us a couple of years. You see now the mentality around developing that will and desire to win.“Now for the next period of years let’s see if we can roll that out, now that we’ve created that mentality. Can we continually evolve? Tottenham is a great club, one of the biggest clubs in Britain, but for me I’m just in a really, really happy place in my life.”– Brendan Rodgers, via Leicester Mercury."
Spurs are under their new caretaker manager, Ryan Mason, for the rest of this season. His evaluation is due till the season concludes in the summer. Considering Daniel Levy’s mindset, Mason would likely be replaced with someone with much more managerial experience soon.
Kevin Phillips, a former City player and a coach, believes amidst these speculations, it would be a perfect time for the East Midland side to offer a fresh new deal that significantly improves on his last one. Spurs were willing to offer Rodgers wages of £15 million a year, including bonuses. Leicester City should definitely conjure up a sweet deal to reward Rodgers for his efforts thus far.
"“I feel like Brendan is an honorable man and when he speaks his word is his word, of course, in football not everything is a given. Loyalty can go out of the window sometimes but to me he looks like a man of his word.“He clearly loves being at Leicester. I worked there and I know the owners, I know what they are like. It is a great football club. I would be very surprised if he wanted to leave. If Leicester were sitting in mid-table then I could kind of see it but they are third. They will finish in the Champions League spots and he will be excited about managing Leicester in Europe next season.“If Tottenham are offering him £15million-a-year that is a hell of a lot of money but Leicester’s owners have serious money as well so I would not be surprised if they acted quickly and improved his contract. I would be surprised if he moved on.”– Kevin Phillips told Football Insider."
Unlike last season Leicester City is close to secure a Champions League spot for the next season. They reside third in the Premier League table as of now. City is also going to participate in the FA Cup final after decades of absence against Chelsea. Rodgers’ current contract with Leicester runs until 2025.
Many wonder how the Northern Irishman played his tactical prowess to its fullest to yield such spectacular results despite large injury crisis. There is no doubt the club will offer the manager a new deal that is justified.
