Leicester City is seeking to fortify their attacking departments ahead of the upcoming transfer window. Manchester United winger Dan James is a target for the Foxes.

What’s the story?

According to Manchester Gazzette reporter Paul Swinson, the King Power club’s Director of football, Jon Rudkin is looking to finally place his trust on the shoulders of Wales international, Daniel James. The promising Swansea City starlet has been underwhelming after joining United in 2019.

The Red Devils are not keen to include the 23-year-old in their plans for the upcoming season. United will want to be unburdened with the winger’s wages. They are conjuring up a loan deal that includes an option to buy. That would lead them to pursue a high-profile target like Jadon Sancho, who plays in the same position.

Is he a good option for Leicester City?

Brendan Rodgers narrowly missed out on a Champions League qualification spot, once again, after a set of amateurish performances towards the end of the season. The reason for that is the constant depletion of options for the manager due to dreadful reoccurring injuries this season.

It hampered the Foxes’ progress cruelly. However, the team has managed to bag a silverware and is eligible to contest for another. The East Midlands side has successfully rattled the infamous top six two times in a row and has clung on the fifth spot. Now the management needs to back the gaffer with a strong squad that could crack the top four.

Despite some setbacks, the club has always done some smart work in the transfer market. Leicester City always places their best bet on youngsters who are yet to reach their prime. Dan James falls somewhere around that area. The right-wing has been a particular area of fragility for the team.

Rodgers needs someone like Harvey Barnes in the right flank, and Dan James might be the desirable one to test out the waters with a season loan. The option to buy can be exercised only after evaluating the Welshman’s adaptability and progress. While playing in a Swansea shirt, James was gaining a lot of spotlight for his talented displays.

Leeds United was keen on bringing him to Elland Road for £10 million, but that move did not materialize spectacularly on the deadline day. Later, Manchester United scooped him up for £15 million.

Since then, Dan has lost his touch, he is brilliant with his pace, but that’s all he has been praised for! He lacks his finishing, which could be due to the irregularity of his playing minutes that has hindered the player’s regular growth.
