A platform of comparison- The Premier League

The English Premier League is the world’s richest football competition. It is why we see top stars of the world desire to play in the Premiership. The clubs with those stars help the teams to become incredibly popular worldwide. It’s a vicious cycle.

There are the ‘big six‘ teams that dominate the popularity rankings in the Premier League. These teams are considered elites. They enjoy massive reach over the other 14 rotating sides in the league. Teams like Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham are the ‘bix six.’

Amongst the big six, Manchester United is by far the most popular team. They are also the most successful, having won 20 English top-flight titles; the majority of which were achieved during the ’90s and 2000s. Having players like C. Ronaldo, D. Beckham, W. Rooney, and their legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, the club enjoyed success regularly, far more than any other team in England.

However, at the end of the 2012-13 season, the last dance of Sir Alex, United have fallen behind their glory days. United have not won a Premier League title in eight years. It will be interesting to see whether their massive fan base dwindles over time as younger supporters and more fickle fans switch their allegiance to the most successful team at the time.

Newer clubs are rising, constantly, to disrupt the hierarchy of the top six. The Foxes are leading the charge under Brendan Rodgers of causing that disruption by regularly upsetting the results in their favor. LCFC has managed to defeat all of the proclaimed big clubs this season. A huge statement that injects that belief of dreaming an impossible dream. This season we have seen West Ham joined Leicester City to crack in the top six spots in the league to earn the right of playing European football.
