Leicester City’s interest in former Liverpool loanee Ozan Kabak has been confirmed. Meanwhile the Foxes are close to signing a Manchester United starlet.

Leicester definitely want to secure a playable centre-back during this 2021 off-season. Partly because the preferable three-centre-half system requires a quality back-up – as witnessed in the past campaign.

Journalist Constantin Eckner confirms that Ozan Kabak is on the east Midlands side’s transfer wishlist. Kabak was OK whilst with the Reds, but didn’t really set the Premier League alight through exceptional displays, to be frank.

Eckner’s tweet also interestingly clarifies what was said prior to this week about the Turkey international potentially being available for a cut price agreement. This is a result of financial difficulties for the CB’s club, Schalke.

However, I’m not bowled over by the possible arrival of Kabak: there are better options such as Burnley’s James Tarkowski, albeit rather expensive ones. Although, having a pair of solid Turkish CBs who are presumably friends as well as national colleagues may be a boost for Leicester, if comfort and familiarity are relevant.

There are now wide reports that Manchester United youngster Chris Popov is on the verge of signing for the Foxes. Popov, a Welsh forward, will likely initially receive a scholarship but will turn professional via a reported three-year deal. That will happen in October to coincide with his 17th birthday.

Football Insider says negotiations have progressed to a point that means the 16-year-old will probably sign for the King Power club. He had been offered a new deal at Man United but Leicester “turned his head” possibly due to their record of transitioning youth to the senior team; a route from Under-18s to U23s is mooted.
