Leicester City’s energetic and ‘strong tackler’ Hamza Choudhury is open to a move away from the King Power. Here is all you need to know about the transfer.

Leicester and Hamza Choudhury are natural friends. The academy product has proven himself to be an aggressive, high octane, and defence-minded midfielder who can also do the job of rushing the ball forward.

However, his competition is Wilfred Ndidi or Youri Tielemans depending upon the role we want to shape him into. The 23-year-old would find it difficult to break into the first team.

Hampering his progression further is the arrival of Boubakary Soumare and return from loan of Keirnan Dewsbury-Hall. Both have talents which make them more suited to Brendan Rodgers’ system.

So, here is what I think about Choudhury and how likely a transfer would be.

Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury open to move

According to reports in the Daily Mail, the young fox is open to a loan move away from King Power, so as to get regular first team football.

The player is wanted by Steve Bruce’s Newcastle. However, with their signing of Joe Willock from Arsenal, any new signing would require a sale first.

They are open to selling many of their second team midfielders to make space. If they sell a single midfielder, Hamza Choudhury will almost certainly be going out on loan this window.

Leicester City are not too interested in a complete sale, since he still has plenty of potential and provides a different systematic option in the event of a couple injuries.

How I feel

To be honest with you, Hamza Choudhury is not a satisfactory lone DM. Alongside that, he is not a world-class passer who can transition the play from defence to attack like Tielemans can. He does not fit the system.

Choudhury has performed energetically in every single match he has played. He plays his heart out because he loves this club and grew through the academy. In this sense, I would never want to see such a promising academy player leave the club.

A move is likely if Newcastle can sell anyone. Choudhury deserves more game time and will find that alongside Willock at Newcastle.

So, let’s send him on loan, let him develop, and then see whether he improves enough to provide a clear option at Leicester as a different option in midfield. Otherwise, it may be time to say goodbye to one of our FA Cup winning midfielders.
