Leicester City: Unfortunate James Justin injury update from Brendan Rodgers
Leicester City fullback James Justin has suffered a minor setback in his return from a long injury. Here is the update from Brendan Rodgers.
Long-term absentee Justin was hoped to make his first appearance for the U23s this week. However, the future England international has reportedly suffered from a minor reoccurrence of the issue.
Our defensive star was off with knee ligament damage midway through last season, and is yet to return to the side.
What Leicester City boss has said
Here are the specifics of what the Northern Irishman said about the setback:
"“He was ahead of where he was going to be, then he trained with the group and for a few weeks there he was looking very good, and we were looking to get him into an Under-23s game.”– Brendan Rodgers"
Unfortunately, Justin reacted to his return to training. His reaction will place him six days behind schedule which will see the English defender return to training and then rejoin the U23 side.
Foxes supporters will not see the young fullback for a couple weeks. Once the player has regained fitness he will rejoin the Leicester City senior side for training. I do not expect to see Justin in the starting XI until either mid December or early January.
How does Leicester City fit Justin in
A question seldom answered is what will happen when the player does eventually make his return from injury. At this moment, Luke Thomas, Ryan Bertrand, and even Timothy Castagne can perform on the left and are all fit.
Playing the England international at right back is a possibility. With Ricardo Pereira injured at times, Justin can be slotted in on the right and Castagne moved to the left or vice versa.
Just as likely though would be Daniel Amartey filling in at right back. After all, the Ghanaian defender has proven himself once more a hard worker and an asset to the team. This would still mean no place for the star.
For Leicester, playing one of our best fullbacks at centre back is also a possibility. Pacey and with an excellent defensive positioning, Justin can be expected to do a stellar job at the back.
However, the young player may not be able to get in there ahead of Jonny Evans, Caglar Soyuncu, Amartey, Jannik Vestergaard, and others due to their fitness. They have played most of the season where Justin has played very little.
My suggestion to the King Power boss would be to ease the player in, coming off the bench in a variety of positions. This would help to find where Justin’s best position is for the duration of this season.
