Rodgers outlines what’s next for Leicester’s young stars
Leicester’s boss did also talk about how he saw their development going. From the same LeicestershireLive piece, we will run through the players in turn and examine where we can expect them to be in the next couple of seasons.
"“Will has physical development left, but he is a very strong player for his age”"
The English midfielder – Alves – won the ‘Match of the Day’ can you kick it competition declaring him one of the best technical footballers of his age. His ability to control the movement and flow of the ball is already very mature. However, the boss sees room for development.
Alves might be an excellent technical player, but he is not physically in the right place for first team football just yet. During the closing stages of the Hornets fixture, the Fox gave the ball away a couple of times and found the physicality of the opposition difficult to handle while on the ball.
No doubt the player is going places, but still has some time. To be clear, we can expect a season of physical development before a loan move to a League One side.
"“Kasey McAteer, Sammy Braybrooke, Ben Nelson, Lewis Brunt, they have the physicality, but there are other aspects, football and tactics… they might be on a pathway for a loan period”"
Our academy products are nearing the stages of their career where they have gained enough physical, mental, and tactical development to impact games at a first team level rather than as substitutes.
Therefore, it is time these players are either thrown into senior team action as substitutes to injured players or sent off on loan to begin gaining a greater level of experience at that senior level. Each player is at a different stage. For example, Brunt is already more experienced, so might just need time with the senior squad to integrate.
