Maddison and Dewsbury-Hall injury updates before Roma game
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers provides injury updates on midfielders James Maddison and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall before the Roma game.
The Tottenham Hotspur match is best forgotten and resigned to the dungeon of understandably poor performances. Remember, prior to the great Srivaddhanaprabha family intervention and takeover. You know, whenever the Foxes support watched their team playing a prominent and eminent club, we just expected defeat. And we were rarely incorrect – but often disappointed.
Well the Tottenham loss is a throwback to that thankfully bygone era. Why most of us Blue Army members predicted a heavy-ish defeat is because we knew Rodgers would rotate in wholesale fashion. And that is due to the monumental Europa Conference League semifinal second leg clash with the Romans on Thursday.
To be fair to the Northern Irishman, choosing almost entirely periphery personnel is not an easy move to make. In the Premier League, it can be managerial suicide. Though not all of the main XI were rested, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and James Maddison have fitness issues.
"James MaddisonInjury: Hip. The midfielder was left out of the squad for the trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. What Rodgers said: “James Maddison has a little bit [of a problem] with his hip, so those two boys have not travelled. Madders was his hip that he’s had an issue with before. We couldn’t risk them, we kept them at home to continue with their treatment. Fingers crossed they will be okay.”Kiernan Dewsbury-HallInjury: Calf. Along with Maddison, the midfielder was omitted from the squad that travelled to North London on Sunday. What Rodgers said: “Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall had a tight calf anyway, so he wasn’t going to be available. He felt a tightness in his calf, so we have to just assess that. Fingers crossed he will be okay.”Leicester Mercury"
Brendan Rodgers seems to subtly criticise Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu
Centreback Soyuncu was on the receiving end of a tough tackle from highly praised counterpart Cristian Romero of Spurs. Romero is considered by many neutrals as being one of the better performing CBs this term. His rise, along with Antonio Conte in general, have revitalised the North London outfit endlessly. They are back on the map.
Meanwhile, the Turkey international has gone down in most onlookers’ estimations in 2021/22. In fact, Soyuncu’s decline began way before the current campaign. Nevertheless, supporters of the East Midlands side would back Soyuncu in all one-on-ones or 50/50 fights. And that goes for any opponent. Yet the Fox lost the battle, badly. Additionally, as hard as it is to admit, he also stayed down in dubious circumstance. Rodgers wasn’t best pleased with the incident, as he alluded to the Turk being slightly soft in the challenge:
"“There’s no problem with the tackle. We have to win the tackle. I’ve got a problem with us not winning the tackle.”"
