Brendan Rodgers selects the next Leicester captain
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has penned a new deal at Leicester City, extending the contract with his boyhood club until 2027.
The Foxes are having a quiet transfer window, but finally good news has arrived with Dewsbury-Hall signing a new five year deal. Offering him a new deal was a no-brainer for the club as he is surely one of the fan favourites. He had an amazing start in the Premier League last season, where he was monumental in almost every game he played for the club.
When Boubakary Soumare and Youri Tielemans were struggling for form, ‘KDH’ stepped up and made a difference in midfield. In a campaign where there were lot of negative Leicester City narratives, the latter was a huge positive.
Brendan Rodgers has often talked about the importance of Dewsbury-Hall being so deeply connected to the club. Additionally, in the future Rodgers sees him becoming a leader on Filbert Way. There is really nothing to debate about because KDH has all the ingredients to carry the armband in the future. The Englishman cares deeply about LCFC and has been here since the age of eight. He really has seen the club go through rough times and the current excellent era.
Earlier in the spring when talks were circulating in the news regarding Dewsbury-Hall extending his contract, the gaffer made this telling statement:
"”I think he’s (Dewsbury-Hall) a captain at some time in the future here. He leads, he inspires, he’ll say what he thinks. He’s also very respectful and very humble. He’s a great ambassador for the club and the academy.“I know he is very committed and wants to be here. He’s still got a lot more development to take place and he loves playing here. He’s got a real good idea of the game and real good energy. He has the right attributes but he needs experience.”Leicester Mercury"
The 23-year-old is probably not far away from making his England debut, too. If he keeps on performing at this level consistently he will be getting a call-up from the National team. Some people might argue that there is already a lot of competition in the Three Lions midfield, which also resulted in James Maddison not getting selected for the recent UEFA Nations League.
However, the former Luton Town loanee is a young player who still has a lot of time left. With, Gareth Southgate’s side struggling in the UEFA Nations League – who knows what opportunity might come up.
KDH is also one of the main reason that fans are relaxed about the central area. If Youri Tielemans does leave, it would force the club to jump headfirst into the transfer market to get a new face. Though, if it no switches happen, Foxes supporters can stay relaxed because of the latest superstar. With Kasper Schmeichel coming towards the end of his career it would be only logical to hand Dewsbury-Hall the future responsibilities of taking the outfit to greater heights.
