Leicester City fans are growing impatient as the club is yet to make any intriguing move in the transfer market. So, what on earth is going on this summer?

Starting off with the obvious

The whole Youri Tielemans deal has partaken a fair chunk of our valuable business time as that is going nowhere. City still needs an interested club to start a negotiation. However, thus far, the trail runs short and cold, with Arsenal as the only possible taker.

But the London-based club has not put the addition of the Belgian midfielder as a priority. Judging by their progression, it looks a bit timid at the moment. Thus, the main piece of the puzzle has stalled any hopes of an upcoming rebuild.

It’s a huge setback, but the club management is trying their best to hold on to Tielemans with a release clause. The latest information is that without the expected sale of the Belgian, the East Midlanders are now rethinking their approach to doing business throughout the summer.

To make matters worse, a fan favorite move for Ademola Lookman has been working as an afterthought. Right now, the Nigeria international has concluded his spell for the Foxes. Leicester now looks to test out the waters for separate matters before committing an outright £12-15million for the Leipzig talent.

Leicester City plans to reduce the wage bill

So let’s get clear about the King Power club’s end game for this transfer window as the plans are somewhat changing. There is an urgency to shrink the current wage bill in all possible areas as the outfit doesn’t need as much of a squad depth as they desperately longed for in the earlier season due to their participation in European club competitions.

The outgoings thus form a vital bit of concern that must be dealt with firsthand for the club now. Players like Dennis Praet, Caglar Söyüncü, Boubakary Soumaré, and Hamza Choudhury have gathered quite a lot of interest which would make the Foxes ponder preparing for solid negotiations.

Even at a minimum, the club at least needs to bring in 3-4 fresh players to solve their urgent crisis. A right-winger, a defensive midfielder (if Choudhury, Mendy, or Soumaré leave), a centre-back, and another striker would be sufficient to cover up for the next season.

Struggles to recruit without a head

We expect the club to start their summer dealings by the next weekend. The King Power group has incurred significant losses during the pandemic as the tourism industry forms its bread and butter. Unlike other clubs in proximity, LCFC needs to gather funds before spending. Without the outgoings, in order, the club cannot start to recruit.

Another valid reason for the delay is a lack of a current Head of Recruitment at the club. Following Lee Congerton’s departure to Atalanta, Martyn Glover has become an ideal choice that the Foxes are tempted to test out. However, his ongoing commitments at Southampton make him a busy man to hijack during this window.
