Tielemans happy to be away from EPL after disastrous start
Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans declared himself happy for the Premier League hiatus following a terribly tough start to the 2022/23 season.
Much of the Blue Army expected Tielemans to leave over the summer. I must admit, I would’ve been more than content if the Foxes obtained even a relatively decent fee for the Belgian.
This stance arose merely because his price decreased through performance and an expiring contract. In all fairness, Tielemans isn’t quite the player he was, for example, the season in which he scored the FA Cup-winning goal. In my opinion, we have seem little of his brilliance for well over a year.
Until it got very late into the recently passed transfer window, it felt as though Tielemans would be sold, probably to Arsenal. Alas, nothing materialised. Not even a silly bid emerged, according to King Power gaffer Brendan Rodgers.
Following the disastrous start to the EPL campaign, the former AS Monaco man is relieved to be on international duty.
"“I’m happy to get a bit of fresh air here [with Belgium] because it’s tough at Leicester right now,” the midfielder said in a Belgium press conference. “It’s clear that things are not going well at the club. We are doing everything we can as a team.“At Leicester, the consecutive defeats have affected us as a group. We need to benefit from this break to recharge our batteries. It’s hard to get it off my mind as it keeps running through my head. Only my kids sometimes prevent me from thinking about it.”Sky Sports"
The good news Leicester City fans have waited ages for has a knock-on effect
If you take a look at the east Midlanders’ upcoming run of fixtures, you will see that it is a tough old bunch of opponents. However, the opposition is not generally great quality or standing. In fact, it is a beatable sequence of five: Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest, South Coast strugglers Bournemouth, capital outfit Crystal Palace, Yorkshire’s Leeds United and another Midlands foe, Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Not one of those sides is in the top half of the English top-flight. Not a single club. Needless to say, in this day and age with possibly £200million to lose through relegation, every clash there is a proverbial six-pointer.
The good news is that Rodgers is finally in line for the sack, with LCFC reportedly considering his future at the time of writing. The knock-on effect is that a ‘new manager bounce back’ could transpire and makes the Northern Irishman’s departure during the international break almost certain.
