Cesare Casadei still struggling at Leicester City

The one play who didn’t give a good account for himself at Anfield was loanee Cesare Casadei. After a dramatic goal-scoring debut against Cardiff City, many fans were keen to see more of Casadei on the pitch.

Still only 20, the midfielder arrived temporarily from Chelsea this season with a lot of potential. Coming off an U20s World Cup in which he was top scorer and voted the best player, a lot of buzz was made about the move. Unfortunately, we are yet to see him deliver thus far.

Making his third start on Wednesday, this was a mixed bag of a performance from the Italian. He showcased some fine flair in several touches and cute passes, but these were heavily outweighed by unsuccessful dribbles and wayward passing.

Still yet to decide his best position, Casadei seems caught in two minds over how he wants to affect the game. Greatly outshone by both Hamza Choudhury in defence and Yunus Akgun in attack, he was the weakest link in midfield and was tellingly the first player to be subbed off for Leicester, with Wilfred Ndidi coming on in his place.

It’s fair to say that Casadei has dropped to the bottom of the midfield pecking order, with Harry Winks, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Ndidi, Choudhury, Akgun and Dennis Praet all superior options for the Foxes. With games coming thick and fast in the Championship, there is still plenty of time for Casadei to prove himself, but he cannot afford to waste those chances.
