Former head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy is long gone. One preseason friendly has already come and gone. Though the LCFC powers-that-be are still yet to appoint a new manager. And it appears that Leicester City fans do not want a retired England star reportedly connected with the Foxes job at King Power Stadium to take over. In fact, a particularly funny but probably incorrect Blue Army member made a humorous statement.

The hypothetical instillation of a Liverpool hero would 'be about as popular as [director of football, Jon] Rudkin taking over' as LCFC team boss, said the supporter. Who is this very famour person the City faithful are not keen on? Is he a decent or even likely contender for the Leicester role? And would we endorse his arrival on Filbert Way?

He'd be about as popular as Rudkin taking over - Leicester City fans don't want ex-England star and Liverpool legend joining Foxes

Leicester Mercury's most recent unpopular article concerned the possibility of Steven Gerrard coming to the King Power as first team manager. In fact, the article was about mediocre former player and indifferent Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman's opinion on the matter.

In the true style of indifference and non-story, Goodman failed to even get off the fence so to speak. Although the one-time Bradford City, West Bromwich Albion, Sunderland and Wolverhampton Wanderers man (among a host of lesser journeyman clubs) did make one good point.

Gerrard would be conflicted with respect to the opportunity of managing LCFC at present. While the facilities, fan base and youth set-up/emergence is excellent - problems are countless and crucial.

But it doesn't seem to me that the faithful even relish the thought of the Champions League champion at City. Just look at a few of these responses to the unlikely scenario from fans below:

"No thanks. Another example of an ex- player simply not good enough to translate from pitch to dugout."
Dean Hawkins
"Gerrard for Leicester? No thanks."
SNFox
"Simply NO to Gerard, not good enough."

"No thank you [sic] he would be about as popular as Rudkin himself taking over."
