A managerless Leicester City Football Club actually played a friendly at the weekend, oddly enough. Peterborough United were defeated 3-1 by the East Midlands outfit on the day at City's Seagrave Training Centre. With no manager in place, Leicester legend Andy King has been taking senior practice sessions and managing team affairs. And the King Power hero has been explaining what it's like to manage the Foxes, even if only part-time in these very testing times. So, what's 'Kingy' been saying about LCFC? Let's hear from him via Leicester's Mercury.
Next Foxes head coach update
5/4 Sean Dyche and 6/4 next LCFC manager odds-rated Danny Rohl have been joined by a new arrival atop the bookmakers' list. Ex-Sheffield United gaffer Chris Wilder was an entry in the group for a while now.
But the bookies have just promoted the 57-year-old to third position in the rankings. As I say, Dyche, who formerly managed Everton and Burnley, is said to be the leading candidate.
However, rumours on his likelihood are particularly conflicting. At this stage, it's anyone's guess who Aiyawatt 'Khun Top' Srivaddhanaprabha and Jon Rudkin want!
Leicester City legend Andy King explains what it's like to manage the Foxes, even if in a makeshift capacity
Leon McSweeney and Andrew Hughes joined King in the dugout at City's exemplary complex for the non-competitive Posh (Peterborough) outing. And it appears the former City midfielder is enjoying his role, in spite of an interim status.
"It's been great; I've had great backing from the staff who've been here and the lads have been brilliant. "Andy King, via LCFC Live
As for King's footballing philosophy and training methods, I'll allow the man himself to detail the ethos:
"Hopefully, when the new manager comes in, we're in a good place to hand them over physically, they're ready to go and whoever that is can put their own mark on how they want their team to play, rather than us spending time working tactically and ignoring the physical, that may change when the new manager comes in.King, continued
"So from my point of view, we're trying to get them in a good place physically, working them hard mentally and knowing the standards that we're going to set this season. We've had a hard week, but a really good one."
Overall, King believes that hard fitness work and dedication will suffice for this Leicester squad in the upcoming Championship season. Evidently he thinks the talent is already available - the right person just needs to lead them.
