Leicester City Football Club will have failed their own fans once again if they do not sign at least one suitable striker this summer, and there is now speculation amongst LCFC's Blue Army support that this eventuality will not come to fruition.
In spite of not particularly being welcomed by supporters on Filbert Way, for obvious reasons involving his questionable tactical past, Russell Martin did a great job with the Foxes squad over the offseason and now in preseason. Yet, if the former Southampton, Rangers, MK Dons, and Swansea City head coach is not backed at King Power Stadium regarding requisite additions, he won't have a hope in hell of succeeding, sadly!
However, and not to dismiss the need of a fresh, capable centre forward, Leicester have been finding the net from all sources and angles during their particularly successful non-competitive schedule prior to the 2026/27 campaign proper beginning. Four wins in five matches, including one draw with La Liga club Malaga, along with a host of goals, has driven expectations and optimism upwards slightly in LE2.
Teenager Kirsten Otchere is the name on everyone's lips at present; he's netted three times for Martin already. But even Otchere may be considered too inexperienced or youthful to lead the line. Nathan Opoku is an experienced alternative, yet that scenario feels unlikely unless chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha totally abandons recruitment in the face of LCFC's possible sale.
Leyton Orient's Dom Ballard to Leicester City?
Although, the only measure that would truly please, or even delight the City fan base, would be acquiring that elusive central attacker. Dom Ballard appears to be the man Leicester followers have decided on, with Leicester Mercury very tenuously linking the Leicestershire outfit to the forward.
Unfortunately, Bristol City's reportedly declined £4 million offer bodes badly: the Foxes hierarchy are obviously reluctant to outlay anything at all on recruits. Nevertheless, Ballard is seemingly ideal for City; his own club's majority shareholder admitted the right price will secure his signature.

Leyton Orient principal David Gandler stated that any proposal for Ballard must be acceptable (lucrative, in other words) and help the club plan for the future. Underscoring that the Londoners are under no pressure to sell and aim to build long-term value.
The acquisition of a proven striker could be the crucial factor in Martin's potential success and in appeasing the expectant Leicester faithful. Not to mention achieving promotion.
