Leicester City's dramatic collapse from Premier League title winners to League One strugglers has plunged the club into crisis, with long‑term owners King Power placing the entire operation up for sale after many years at the helm. The financial troubles that made their position untenable began during the COVID‑19 pandemic, when the travel retail giant lost untold wealth and were no longer able to subsidise the East Midlands organisation as it had done previously.

King Power have now commissioned a detailed sales brochure to market LCFC to prospective buyers worldwide, laying out assets and commercial potential. Early reports linked Middle Eastern investors as possible candidates to take over; a separate consortium of local property developers was also said to be weighing up a bid, though neither has yet tabled a formal offer.

With the Foxes haemorrhaging funds, every first‑team player is effectively available for purchase as they scramble to cut costs. The Blue Army are desperate for a new owner to be found as quickly as possible, with reports warning that entering administration is a very real risk if no deal or investment is sourced.

Who is potential Leicester City suitor Neil Lal?

Into this fraught situation has stepped Neil Lal, a Scottish‑Indian businessman and community leader who has formally expressed interest in buying Leicester. He serves as Chairman and President of the Indian Council of Scotland and the United Kingdom, with a family business legacy stretching back to the 1940s spanning real estate, venture capital and investment.

Lal has twice been named Man of the Decade in 2025 — first at the Scottish Parliament by the Gandhian Peace Society, then by the UK Buddhist & Thai Council with a personal blessing from His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. He was also honoured as Guest of Honour and presented with the 'I Am Peacekeeper' Champion Award at the Billionaires for Peace Conclave in Mumbai, alongside Nobel Peace Laureates, former Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Lal has submitted a written enquiry to City bosses as he explores a takeover, claiming that he wants to restore the team to the top tier, whilst tapping into India's 1.4 billion people to drive new revenue streams via merchandising and streaming. He also apparently holds ambitious long‑term plans to buy Rangers, outlining proposals to expand Ibrox's capacity, build a hotel and restaurant on site and use global Indian fan engagement to generate funds for player investment and infrastructure.
